Square One

Spring/Summer 2020 was originally conceived as Margu's first "real" collection, the first collection designed and developed entirely in NYC, launched at the start of our first full year as a New York brand. My goal was to mix many of our tried-and-true classic styles with one soon-to-be-classic style (the Dory), all crafted out of functional yet luxurious fabrics in a poppy yet streamlined palette.

Almost like a "greatest hits" collection, my intention for Spring/Summer 2020 was for it to serve as the culmination of our NYC rebrand, but then the coronavirus hit the US (and the world) just as we were preparing the collection for launch. At that point, the title of the collection, "Square One," took on a second, ironic, meaning. While SS20 is still a collection that embodies what my brand is all about, it now also embodies the uncertainty of starting back at the beginning and not knowing what's going to happen next — a feeling that's pretty universal right now.
